About Senior Project

What is the Senior Project?

In summary, Senior Project includes the following:

  • Product
  • Research Paper
  • Presentation
  • Portfolio

Students are required to pick a topic that will fit in one of the following 3 categories: Career Focus, Service Learning, or Student Personal Interest.  For more information about topic selection, turn to the Selecting a Topic section of this binder.

Students will select a faculty mentor/advisor and a community mentor on their senior project.  Together with their mentors, students will develop a topic and do research. Students will write about and present their findings and experiences.  This project will take place over the course on the students’ senior year outside of regular class time.

Who do I work with on my Senior Project?

Faculty Advisor/Mentor and CommunityMentor

Students will work closely with a faculty mentor/advisor and a community mentor to select a topic for their senior project.  Students must identify a faculty mentor/advisor to work on their senior project, and that faculty member may help them in identifying a community mentor if one has not already been identified by the student.

Students are required to meet with their faculty mentor/advisor at least once a month.  Students are required to spend a documented 20 hours with their community mentor.

What does each element of the Senior Project require?

Product

Based on the student’s topic, the project may vary.  The product must be related to the student’s project thesis.

Research Paper

The research paper must be 8- 10 pages long.  Students must create a coversheet and annotated bibliography in addition to the 8-10 pages.  Mentors and the school librarian will be of great assistance to the student when looking for credible resources for researching their topic.

Presentation

The presentation will need to be 8-15 minutes and will take place in front of a panel of at least 3 judges after you have completed your product, research paper and portfolio (which you will bring to the presentation).

Portfolio

Most of the portfolio includes the information that is contained in this binder.  Students may use this binder to create their portfolio.

  1. I’m totally impressed with your technological skills! You will be famous one day, I know it! Please continue your hard work and I’m sure you’ll be impressing the judges on presentation day too….P.S. I’ve signed you up for a 9:30 a.m. presentation time in Mr. Keelan’s room for the 28th of April. We will be having a trial run after school on the 27th to make the equipment is working for your big day!
